The Victory Players is part of the Victory Theatre Arts Academy
The focus of the 2018 Season is
El Puerto Rico, The Rich Port
The Victory Players is a result of the vision of Don Sanders, Executive Artistic Director of the Victory Theatre in Holyoke, and Ng Tian Hui, Director of Orchestral Studies at Mount Holyoke College. The Victory Players is a Pierrot + Percussion ensemble, playing a diverse range of contemporary music. In this inaugural project, the ensemble will work with music inspired by the rich culture of Puerto Rico. The ensemble will work with clinicians to explore aspects of Puerto Rican style, and premiere new compositions written by the clinicians. In addition, the ensemble has been invited to high schools in the area and will share music from the first performance in school visits. The 2018 residency will culminate with performances in the city of Holyoke.
The ensemble offers top-quality performance opportunities, invaluable professional development and the opportunity to partner throughout the fellowship with a school in the Western Massachusetts school district, and at Mount Holyoke College where a residency will offer, together with the public schools setting, the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of community settings. At the same time, each young artist will have opportunities to develop solo and chamber music projects according to their individual interests.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Chicopee Cultural Council, Holyoke Cultural Council, and South Hadley Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
